Canine cancer is often deemed to be inoperable and sometimes the most human choice is to not pursue traditional treatments like surgery and chemotherapy. Here is one family’s about making the right choice for their dog:

“Sophie was adopted as a rescue dog when she was a just over a year old. We were her third placement. She was deemed spiteful and destructive. After a week, I knew that we had a very special girl. She was just too smart and needed a job. Sophie quickly became my right hand. She kept all our other dogs in line and is a natural at tracking, quickly finding one of our escapee pets. She became our dog ambassador, always friendly and polite, our in house puppy trainer. Actually, Sophie would have been a great service dog since she was able to open doors, cabinets and crates. She is truly my heart dog, a once in a life-timer.

Last January she was scheduled for a routine dental cleaning. Since she was already 10 years old blood work and x-rays were recommended pre-operatively. I received a call to immediately come pick her up. I was devastated to be told that the x-rays showed a substantial lesion. The following day, I brought her to see an oncologist. He found 2 more lesions in her lungs. He believed that these were not the primary tumor and that it spread from somewhere else. He suggested an MRI to locate the primary tumor and treat it with the appropriate chemotherapy. She was not a surgical candidate with a metastasized lesion. He told us 3 months without any treatment and 6 months with aggressive treatment (chemo and radiation). We decided to love her, pamper her and not pursue conventional treatment.

Within a week of diagnosis, I changed her diet to grain free kibble and began her on K9 Immunity. It has now been almost a year and she is still doing wonderfully. Sophie has dedicated the past summer to hiking and training a new poodle puppy. She has an occasional cough, but has not shown any signs of illness. I love to watch her frolic with the puppy. I can only attribute her wellness to K9 Immunity and kibble. I am so glad that we found out about K9 Immunity.”

At Pet NutriSystems, we have been following Sophie’s story for quite some time. We wish her continued quality of life.

Jan D. wrote about her dog Niki:

“My Niki was also diagnosed with liver disease and I thought I was going to loose him, then I found your website and ordered the liver kit for him. He has only been on it for a little over a month. He is better than before he got sick and I have my fur person back with me. Thanks to the kit!!!”

Our kit contains the essential supplements needed for liver recovery like, milk thistle tincture, sAMe, digestive enzymes and more. The Liver Companion Guide helps you put everything together so you can give your dog the best chance at recovery possible.

Jordan is an old soul. Friends have always teased me that Jordan is a “lemon.” Like that car that always has an issue, that’s pretty much been Jordan. She has had one of those lives, a dog attack when she was a puppy, 3 ACL surgeries, eye surgery and now cancer. She has always managed to come through, happier than ever. That being said, it is no surprise to me that Jordan is still here with me today, going on walks up in the canyon, doing water aerobics in the lake (can’t really call it swimming anymore) and seemingly still happy to be here.

Jordan was diagnosed with cancer two and a half years ago. Her vet told us the news and added “there were options to extend her life.” But at 11- ½ years old and 75 pounds, I didn’t feel that life extension at this point would be the quality of life that she knew and loved. After spending some time dwelling on these options and searching various sites on the internet, I came upon K-9 Immunity.

The vet is amazed at the quality of Jordan’s life. The cancer that is in her mouth has stayed at bay and the spot in her mouth is raw. In the past two years it hasn’t gotten bigger. Jordan eats soft food and is always the first one with an empty bowl.

I honestly believe that the K-9 Immunity Plus, the CAS Options Immunity and Antioxidant Support, Syn Flex Arthritic Support and Taste of the Wild food are the reason Jordan keeps getting up in the morning. She isn’t all black or as fit as she once was; but everyday she gets up with that same silly Labrador look on her face, barks at me to feed her and wags her tail endlessly as we get ready to enjoy another day together.

Diet – Avoid dry kibble. It robs the body of moisture and some veterinarians think it might actually cause kidney disease in cats. In addition, stick with high quality canned foods that do not contain meat by-products.

Supplements - Fish oil has been shown to have many great benefits to both humans and pets. Specific to kidney disease, fish oils have protective qualities and are believed to help the kidneys function better. It is the one supplement veterinarians agree on. Antioxidants (bioflavonoids in particular) are thought to improve kidney filtration by reducing oxidative stress and possibly assist the cells in regenerative repair. Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes help process food and reduce the load on kidneys. These supplements are used by many of our clients to help battle even advanced kidney disease, but if you look at the way each supplement functions, common sense says they should be used as an insurance policy against kidney disease.

Hydration – Proper hydration helps ensure that toxins have a way of leaving the body and a lack of hydration is suspected by many to be a key cause of kidney disease. Cats do not have a well developed thirst mechanism so it is important to encourage them to drink. A drinking fountain might be a good idea. Most cats love them. They keep water moving so it’s cooler (cats love to drink moving water) and it is constantly filtered to it stays fresher longer, which is also a must for picky cats.

If your cat is over 7 years old, it is a good idea to have their kidney values checked by your veterinarian at their next checkup – and keep checking them every year. If you can’t prevent kidney disease, the next best thing is to catch it early. Catching the disease early and following the protocols for kidney health can result in the addition of many quality years

Kaci Lee is a lab on a mission. Her Mom was in Afghanistan for a year. Upon returning home to the States she noticed a fatty tumor on Kaci Lee’s neck. Both have been through thick and thin. Now they are Kaci Lee’s fatty tumor with the help of K9 Immunity Plus Chews.

Pet’s name: Kaci Lee

Breed: Lab

Age: 10

Owners name: Traci Kroupa

Health Challenges: Cancer

Traditional therapies: chemotherapy

Natural alternatives: All natural high-protein diet, krill oil, K-9 Immunity Plus Chews, Probiotics, Digestive Enzymes and Multi-vitamins

Kaci Lee has been a healthy lab, other than the usual aches and pains that come with getting older. I was deployed to Afghanistan for a year (with the Army Natl. Guard) and when I got home I noticed the fatty tumor that was on the right side of her neck had gotten bigger. I had this tumor biopsied at least 2 times before and it always turned out to be fatty, but now it felt different. Sure enough it was. She had surgery to have it removed, but it is up against her cervical spine so the only option to “slow down the growth” is chemotherapy.

She went through her 1st round and it made her so sick and miserable, I thought there has to be something I can do. That is when I found K-9 Immunity and tried that along with the other supplements I have been giving her. She responded well and seemed to have more energy. So I am happy to say that after her 3rd round of chemo, she is still doing well and would never know she is dealing with cancer. I am thankful that Pet NutriSystems carries K-9 Immunity Plus Chews. It just makes it so much easier to give her supplements and not have to put it into her food.

She is a great companion and has been through thick and thin with me, so it’s the least I could do to make her as comfortable as possible.
